Ruud Van Nistelrooy labelled Manchester United’s first-half performance against PAOK as “not good at all” despite a 2-0 win for his side.

Amad scored twice in the second half to hand United their first win of the Europa League campaign but caretaker boss Van Nistelrooy was left disappointed by his team’s first-half display.

He told TNT Sports: “The first half was poor… If I’m being nice, but the second half was way better. That was clear.

“Amad made a difference for us today obviously because of his goals but he was sharp. I think in the first half he was also one of the few that was at his level so well done to him, a good game.

“Positionally we weren’t good at all in the first half, we left our positions, we were taking lots of other positions. We were too much out of position.

“In the second half that was a lot better and we got into the game.”

Van Nistelrooy did, however, heap praise on goalscorer Amad for his hard work on the training pitch and says he has been impressed by the youngster’s desire to get into the starting 11.

“He’s been incredible. Every time, he was never affected by not playing,” he said.

“He’s training well, always staying on the pitch to do extra bits asking me to do more.”
