Real Madrid’s Vinicius Jr has been ruled out of his side’s Champions League match against Liverpool after suffering a hamstring injury.
The 24-year-old is rumoured to be sidelined for the next three weeks according to Spanish newspaper Marca, after playing the entire match in Madrid’s 3-0 win over Leganes on Sunday.
The Brazilian, who has scored 12 goals and assisted a further eight in all competitions for Los Blancos, has suffered what the club says is “an injury to the biceps femoris in his left leg.”
The La Liga outfit are currently 18th in the 36-team Champions League table and head to Anfield to face league leaders Liverpool, who also sit in top spot in the Premier League. Victory is vital for the Spanish giants after only two wins from their opening four matches.
The Reds appear unlikely to be able to call upon defender Trent Alexander-Arnold to face the 15-time European Champions after suffering a hamstring injury before the international break.
In a post on social media site X, Vinicius Jr said: “Crazy calendar. Time to recover.” Despite the rumoured timeframe for the forwards injury layoff, Madrid are not commenting on the severity of the injury.
