WATCH: Arteta gives update on Partey future

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has given an update on the future of Thomas Partey and the fitness of Bukayo Saka.

The Gunners face Brighton on Saturday evening with a chance to return to the top of the Premier League. Mikel Arteta’s side are unbeaten in their last ten league matches, winning nine of them, with Wednesday’s win over Luton Town giving Arteta the opportunity for some rare rotation in his starting lineup.

One of the players who returned to the starting eleven was Thomas Partey, with the midfielder finally fit again after a lengthy injury lay-off in what has been a disruptive campaign for the Ghanian.

When asked about the future of the midfielder, Arteta called for zero distractions with Arsenal still in two major competitions:

“He’d better have his head here because we are playing for big things. He’s a top player and important for us.

“He’s our player, he’s got one more year’s contract and I’m really happy with him.

The Spaniard also gave an update on Bukayo Saka’s fitness, believing the forward will have a big role to play in the rest of the season.

The 22-year-old has been struggling with a hamstring injury and is a doubt heading into this weekend’s match.

“I’m super positive. I think he’s going to fly and be so decisive,” Arteta said.

“I think he’s so strong. How much he wants it when you talk to him and how excited he is about what’s coming. He’s getting better and better. It’s normal to have little niggles and kicks.”
