WATCH: Arteta on ‘sensational’ Havertz after starring role

Mikel Arteta was full of praise for Kai Havertz after the German helped Arsenal to a 3-2 derby win over Tottenham.

Three first half goals were enough to see the Gunners extend their league at the top of the Premier League to four points.

Havertz was crucial to securing the victory for Mikel Arteta’s side, with the German assisting Arsenal’s second goal of the match before heading in the third from a set piece.

When asked about the impact Havertz was having on the side, Arteta could not hide his delight at the 24-year-old’s performance:

“He was sensational in every department today,” Arteta said. “He was ill before the match and still he put the performance that he put in. I thought he was unbelievable today.

Arteta also commended his side’s psychological resistance in holding onto the win despite conceding twice in the second half to set up a nervy finish.

“We’re gonna make it that the second option is a great one. Last year as well we had to suffer in the second half to win the game.

“The team has another tool to grab which is the confidence that in the big games you have the ability to win it.

“I was praying. It was a really emotional game. A great team to play against. 3-0 up you’re in control and then an individual error happen that clicks something.

“We started to deal with the situation better, but they have the players to put a lot of courage forward.”
