Mikel Arteta says his Arsenal side must still earn the right to be considered as title favourites despite leading the Premier League table.
The Gunners find themselves a point ahead of City going into their game at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday and are ahead of second-placed Liverpool on goal difference.
But Arteta accepts his team must convince people that they are favourites because of what their title rivals have done in the past.
“They (City) have earned the right over seven or eight years with what they’ve done,” Arteta said when asked if he is frustrated that City are still expected by many to win the league this season.
“They have given no reason to anybody else to think they cannot do it again, so we have to give them those reasons.
“We haven’t done it, so we cannot expected to be talked about like City or Liverpool at the moment because we haven’t done it.”
