WATCH: Guardiola on character of Man City team after Forest win

Pep Guardiola praised his Manchester City players after they battled through a Nottingham Forest storm to win 2-0.

City scored either side of halftime thanks to strikes from Josko Gvardiol and Erling Haaland as Guardiola’s side moved within one point of Arsenal at the top of the Premier League.

But the result flattered the current Champions as Forest had plenty of opportunities to peg the Citizens back. Fortunately for Guardiola they held on to secure a crucial victory.

When asked about his side’s performance, the Catalan praised the character of his players to fight off the storm from the hosts:

“During 38 games and the amount of games we have, I knew the games would be like that,” said Guardiola. “They respond well and in that moment of course winning is the most important.

“But not now, in September, October, November, December and every game we play, the most important thing is the results.

“Last season, now you are going to give a lot of compliments. If you want to read the newspapers after the game last season we played here, and how difficult it was, we played 1,000 times much better.

“But they equalise at the end. We miss five, six clear chances. This season we were closer to draw than the last season.

“But today the compliments we show much much character and personality for how Manchester City are the players. I know what’s going to happen. Last season was much, much better.”
