Mauricio Pochettino believes Chelsea supporters have reason to feel calmer after the Blues beat Newcastle United 3-2 at Stamford Bridge on Monday night.
Nicolas Jackson opened the scoring for the hosts when he flicked Cole Palmer’s shot past Martin Dubravka before Alexander Isak equalised with a wonderful strike on the stroke of half-time.
Palmer restored the Blues’ lead with a long-range effort before Mykhailo Mudryk got in on the act, dancing into the penalty area before sitting Dubravka down and passing the ball into the net.
Jacob Murphy set up a nervy finish with a fierce strike into the top right-hand corner in the 90th minute, but Chelsea were able to hold on for a big three points.
And Pochettino feels that this victory will ease the pressure from the fans, for now.
“We keep believing and to win the game today was important for us and of course for our fans to feel a little calmer,” the Chelsea boss said.
“But I think next game, if we don’t win the next game, it is going to be a problem.
“But that is Chelsea, the most important thing is to try to translate the reality, and that is the reality. I don’t want to have to explain the situation again, the problem is that the team needs to be more mature and to play altogether.”
