Roy Hodgson set to be sacked by Crystal Palace – club in talks with new manager

Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson is reportedly close to being sacked after a string of heavy defeats, including a damaging 4-1 loss at rivals Brighton.

The 76-year-old came in last season to secure Palace’s survival in the Premier League, but after a frustrating campaign mixed with bad injuries and inconsistent performances, it looks like the club are set to move on.

According to Oddschecker, former Eintracht Frankfurt manager Oliver Glasner is the clear favourite with some reporting he is in talks with the club to make the switch.

Glasner oversaw their triumphant Europa League campaign in 21/22, going undefeated across all 13 games and beating Barcelona, West Ham and Rangers on their way to lifting the trophy. This took Frankfurt into the Champions League for the first time where they progressed out of the group stage ahead of experienced outfits Sporting Lisbon and Marseille.

Glasner departed the club at the end of the 22/23 season, following defeat in the DFB-Pokal cup final to RB Leipzig, making the appointment an easier one to get done.

Playing on the front-foot and excelling in cup competitions, he would bring the refreshed approach that Crystal Palace fans want with their batch of exciting young talents.

They next face Everton on Monday Night Football, with some believing Hodgson could be gone before then. Palace are five points above the drop with 14 games to go, if Glasner is the man to take charge he’ll have to have an immediate impact.
