We now know 42 of the 48 teams who will take part in the World Cup next year.
The full list of countries who have qualified so far are:
Host nations: Canada, Mexico, United States.
Europe: Austria, Belgium, Croatia, England, France, Germany, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Scotland, Spain, Switzerland.
Africa: Algeria, Cape Verde, Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt, Ghana, Morocco, Senegal, South Africa, Tunisia.
Asia: Australia, IR Iran, Japan, Jordan, Korea Republic, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan.
Oceania: New Zealand.
South America: Argentina, Brazil, Ecuador, Uruguay, Paraguay, Colombia.
North America/Caribbean: Curaçao, Haiti, Panama
But with six spots still in play, here’s how the rest of the qualification for the tournament is shaping up.
UEFA
The group winners have now been confirmed following the end of the group stage qualification stage, but four more sides from Europe will also go through via the play-offs.
The play-offs are made up of the second placed teams along with the four best Nations League group winners who did not finish in the top two in their qualifying group.
Here’s how the qualification picture from Europe looks at the moment…
Group A
Germany thrashed Slovakia 6-0 to confirm their place in the World Cup as group winners, while Slovakia will go through the play-offs.
Group B
Switzerland booked their place at the World Cup as group winners by drawing 1-1, while Kosovo will have a chance to make it through the play-offs after finishing second.
Group C
Scotland’s incredible 4-2 win over Denmark has seen them reach the World Cup for the first time since 1998. Denmark, meanwhile, will go through the play-offs.
Group D
France qualified as group winners with Ukraine finishing second.
Group E
Spain confirmed top spot with a 2-2 draw against Turkey, who finished second.
Group F
Portugal are confirmed as winners of the group, with the Republic of Ireland securing a play-off spot.
Group G
The Netherlands picked up a 4-0 win over Liechtenstein to secure top spot and qualification for the World Cup, with Poland finishing second.
Group H
Austria’s draw with Bosnia & Herzegovina sees them win the group, with Bosnia & Herzegovina finishing second.
Group I
Norway are through as group winners, while Italy will enter the play-offs after finishing second.
Group J
Belgium thrashed Liechtenstein to win the group, while Wales’ big win over North Macedonia secured second spot.
Group K
England were the first European nation to book their place at the World Cup, topping the group. Albania have clinched a play-off spot by finishing second.
Group L
Croatia have qualified as group winners, while Czechia have secured second spot.
Who is in the UEFA play-offs?
As mentioned, there are also play-off spots allocated to teams based on their Nations League performance.
Romania, Sweden, Northern Ireland and North Macedonia will also take part in the play-offs through the Nations League.
Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Czechia, Denmark, Italy, Kosovo, Poland, Republic of Ireland, Slovakia, Türkiye, Ukraine and Wales are the rest of the sides in the play-offs by finishing second in their qualifying groups.
Oceania
New Caledonia could remarkably reach the World Cup if they win the inter-confederation play-off.
South America
Bolivia could join the rest of their South American rivals in the World Cup if they win the inter-confederation play-off.
North America
Curacao’s goalless draw with Jamaica has seen the tiny nation book an unexpected spot at the tournament.
Panama are also confirmed as taking part after their 1-1 draw with Suriname, as are Haiti following a 2-0 win over Nicaragua.
Suriname and Jamaica will take part in the inter-confederation play-off for a chance to reach the World Cup.
Africa
DR Congo beat Nigeria to progress to the inter-confederation play-off where they will have the chance to qualify.
Asia
Iraq will take part in the inter-confederation play-offs after beating the UAE.
