Newcastle’s new centre-forward Nick Woltemade says it was “amazing” to score on his debut for the club – but admits playing in the Premier League for the first time was physically demanding.

Woltemade made a dream start following his £69m move from Stuttgart, scoring the only goal of the game as the Magpies beat Wolves 1-0 to secure their first victory of the season.

“It felt amazing, just all the fans, everybody was happy, I was happy,” Woltemade told BBC Sport.

“Of course, right now if you’ve won the game that’s more important also. I’m very happy about it.

“The Premier League is quite hard, I had to go out because I had cramp.

“It was amazing, the atmosphere, the team played really good balls, they involved me a lot. I think we did quite good.

“It was a hard game because we didn’t win a game in the league before and it was really important that we won a game, especially a home game and we can look forward to the games.

“I was just here for four days now, so everything was new for me. I was putting that bit away and I was focusing on myself today.

“I think the coach already gave me such a good feeling, so I felt good on the pitch. I knew what to do and I guess you saw today everybody knew what they have to do. This win was really important.”
