Zinedine Zidane hailed as Erik ten Hag’s summer replacement by Ally McCoist

Zinedine Zidane is the latest name to be put forward to replace Erik ten Hag, should the Manchester United boss be dismissed this summer.

England manager Gareth Southgate, former Brighton and Chelsea boss Graham Potter and Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel have been tipped as potential successors, but former Scotland striker Ally McCoist believes Zidane should be the man to take the reins.

Zidane managed Real Madrid in two stints between 2016-2021, during which time he won three Champions League titles, but he has been out of football for the past three years.

United are unlikely to secure Champions League football next season, languishing in seventh place in the Premier League, leaving ten Hag’s future at the club in doubt after just two seasons in charge.

“I’d love to see Zinedine Zidane take over at Manchester United”, McCoist told talkSPORT BET. I think that he would be brilliant for the club and if I had to pick one then he would be the one for me. Thomas Tuchel would probably jump at the opportunity to be the next United boss, but Zidane would be my pick.

“I just get the feeling that with the new ownership and Sir Jim Ratcliffe bringing a lot of his own men in, he might want to bring his own manager in as well. It is a project and even if they do replace the manager, I still think they need six or seven new players – you could argue that is more important. Then it comes down to recruitment and who will be tasked with bringing those players in. I’m not so sure that it’ll be Ten Hag.”
