Maddison excited by youngster Moore and says he is optimistic of England recall

James Maddison has backed youngster Mikey Moore to have a big impact for Tottenham.

Moore, 17, has made three appearances off the bench for Spurs this season.

And Maddison says he has been impressed by what he has seen from the young forward.

“I have to sometimes pinch myself and remember how young he is,” he said.

“He’s 17 and came into the group when he was 16. He’s a man already. When I watch him play, he’s very powerful and only going to get stronger as his body grows.

“He’s a great kid. A really well-mannered, polite young man and that’s a credit to his parents. That’s the first thing you look to as a senior player. And then there’s that ability which we see in training all the time and the Spurs fans want to see more of.

“I try to think of what the 17-year-old James Maddison would want to hear from a senior player and it’s to be treated like a man but also give advice whenever possible.”

Maddison also says he wants to earn a recall to the England squad, which will be announced on Thursday for the games against Greece and Finland, having been left out of late, including in the summer’s European Championships.

“I want to be in the England squad, every player does,” he said.

“I know Lee Carsley well. I feel really fit, maybe the fittest I’ve ever been. I had the summer off and it’s been said about Erling Haaland and how sharp he’s come back feeling, and I feel confident and alive. I can only take care of what I do at a club level.”
