‘Always blue at heart’ – Chelsea players bid farewell to Mason Mount

New Man Utd midfielder Mason Mount

Mason Mount’s now former Chelsea team-mates have bid an emotional farewell to the midfielder following confirmation of his move to Manchester United.

The 24-year-old has completed an initial £55m move to United after failing to agree terms on a new Chelsea contract.

Confirming his departure ahead of the official announcement, Mount said he was grateful for the support of the Chelsea fans “over the last 18 years”.

“I know some of you won’t be happy with my decision, but it’s what’s right for me at this moment in my career,” he said in an Instagram post.

And now his ex-Blues team-mates have paid tribute to the England midfielder following his exit.

“I’ve known you since you were six-years-old and we took similar paths in breaking into the first-team, something that seemed virtually impossible,” Reece James said.

“I’m proud to say that I did it alongside you. I’ve seen you as a little boy and watched you grow into the man and player you are today.

“You’ve done yourself and your family proud. We’ve had some of the best days of our career together that will stick with me forever.

“It’s sad to say goodbye. I wish you nothing but happiness, good health and the best of luck on your new adventure. You’ll always be blue at heart.”

Meanwhile, fellow full-back Ben Chilwell said: “A sad day for us all at Chels.

“This guy was a big reason why I wanted to join the club and I’m so glad I did. We have had the best memories together and I’m so glad we got to share the pitch together.

“I wish you the best of luck in your next chapter. Love you brother.”
