Amorim says he is the ‘right guy for the right moment’ at Man Utd

Man Utd boss Ruben Amorim.

Ruben Amorim has backed himself to succeed at Manchester United and says he is the “right guy for the right moment” ahead of his first game in charge of the club against Ipswich on Sunday.

Amorim takes over from Erik ten Hag, who was dismissed last month with United currently 13th in the Premier League table.

He becomes United’s sixth permanent manager since Alex Ferguson left in 2013 but is confident he can get the club back to where they want to be.

Asked if being the manager of Man Utd was an impossible job, he said: “Of course not, I truly believe that. Call me naive, I truly believe I’m the right guy for the right moment. I’m not worried about that.”

Amorim has the task of turning around a team which have lost four of their opening 11 league games, and admits it will be a big challenge but one he is ready for.

“I really don’t know the biggest challenge, I will find out. You have different types of coaches here, the guys that won everything like [Louis] van Gaal and [Jose] Mourinho; the ones who knew the club, like [Ole Gunnar] Solskjaer; and then one of the best outside the five biggest leagues in [Erik] ten Hag.

“We have to acknowledge we need time, but we also have to win games, and that is it. You have different types of coaches, same result. We will try to do it in our way.”
