As the end of his sixth season draws near, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta reflected on bringing the club ever closer to silverware and what his legacy will be.
With a gritty 1-0 win in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final against Sporting CP in the bag and a chance to go 12 points clear in the Premier League, Arteta was asked about the club’s drive to win their first major trophy since their last league title in 2004.
“I’ve wanted the Premier League because it’s been 22 years [since Arsenal won it] and the Champions League has never been done before [at the club],” he reflected. “So that has to fill you with enthusiasm and energy.
“So you have to put everything on the table because that’s the moment to do it,” he added.

Questions have been asked about Arteta’s future at the club, as his current deal runs out at the end of next season and there has been no news about an extension.
Asked about the legacy he would like to leave when he does depart the club, Arteta said that he wants to be missed “a lot.”
He continued: “Hopefully [you think] that someone was here that cared a lot about the club, about the people that were in the organisation and that they had a good time with him.
“That he inspired them to see the game in probably a different way or his own way, and that he injected that passion in the game and will to win and do absolutely everything that we can, to have the opportunity to give back the opportunity that he was giving to me,” he added.
