Arteta not ruling out making more signings in ‘unpredictable’ transfer window

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta refused to rule out making further additions to his squad and labelled this summer transfer window as “unpredictable”.

The Gunners head into their match against Nottingham Forest on Saturday full of confidence after defeating Manchester City in the Community Shield on penalties last Sunday.

With £100+ million bids coming in from Chelsea and Liverpool for Brighton’s Moises Caicedo, Arteta is adamant his side are at an advantage for getting their business done so early, bringing in Declan Rice, Jurrien Timber and Kai Havertz ahead of the start of their pre-season.

And the Arsenal boss says the “unpredictable” nature of the window means Arsenal could yet go back into the market.

“At the moment we’re not planning to do anything,” Arteta said. “But the window is very unpredictable though. Things can happen, probably things that we don’t wish, so at the moment we are happy with what we’ve got.

“We’ve done it and we had the intention to do it, sometimes it is possible, sometimes it is not.

“But we tried our best and we just have to focus on what we can do, the reasons we have done it and maximise the resources we have.

“I think it definitely helps, especially for the player and getting to the environment and getting set. Also for the coaches it is important, for the media, for the commercial for the clubs as well, especially when you go on tour to be certain and have the players you are going to have for the season so it was something very positive for us.”

One player that looks set to join Arsenal is Brentford goalkeeper David Raya, with the Spanish international set to sign initially on loan with an option to buy.

Arteta remained tightlipped on his compatriot, adding: “We have no news on any incomings.”
