Live updates as Everton host Chelsea in the Premier League.
Moyes on what is needed to qualify for Europe: “We’re going to have to win some more big games and I’m going to need the atmosphere and the crowd to play a big part.”
“For Everton to even be in the mix for Europe is unbelievable, whether it be the Conference League or the Champions League. It would be amazing when you think of the troubles (Everton have had).
“This time last year we were just beginning to edge ourselves away from relegation. We still had lots of money to pay off as well, new ownership, 10 or 12 players out of contract. So for us to be in this position now is great and I hope we can stay in the top half of the league by the end, that would be great.
“But we’ve got our eyes on something else.”
“Jimmy Garner was the best player on the pitch, head and shoulders, and he’s up against so many players who will go to the World Cup and so many players who play international football.
“His pass for the first goal was exquisite. I thought the levels of the players he was playing against tonight, he was always going to be judged to see how he could perform.
“I think he’s taken that on greatly. He’s taken it as a challenge and I thought tonight, the way he played, his endeavour to recover the ball back, his speed to recover the ball back is another side of his game which we need because we don’t always have the ball as much as the likes of Chelsea.
“That level of performance isn’t just tonight, that level of performance has been there and that’s why he’s been called up.”
Everton boss David Moyes on whether it’s the best home performance of the season: “Absolutely agree with that. I think it was our best performance, from the first minute really.
“Chelsea were coming here probably hurting a bit from their recent results but we were able to nullify it.
“They’ve got so much quality in their side that it was always going to be a difficult game to deal with the level of players they had.
“I think the players realised the importance of the game and the importance of us trying to win a couple of big games before the end of the season, so tonight was a big game.
“The crowd made it feel like a big game. It was a brilliant atmosphere inside the stadium, it was more like Goodison than we’ve probably had in any other game.
“Big thanks to the supporters for the the part they played in helping us today.”
“They pay their money, they love this club and they’ve come a long way.
“It’s a disappointing time for the club at the moment in terms of the way we lost in the Champions League and the way we’ve lost the last two games.
“It hurts, regardless of your position. It hurts to lose games of football.
“We’re one point away from the Champions League positions. We need to keep working in this way and give the players as much confidence as possible and hopefully this break of games for us comes at a really good moment.”
“I don’t want to be seen to make excuses. That was not good enough and the last week hasn’t been good enough.
“I think if you’re a logical thinking person and you look at the workload and the amount of games the players have played, I think it’s a pretty simple conclusion to come to.”
Rosenior also confirms Gittens has suffered another injury: “Unfortunately Jamie came back into training with us and got re-injured before Newcastle.”
“I felt like we had so much control without the cutting edge.
“We had chances and Pickford made some unbelievable saves and we were getting into the final third more and more.
“We wanted to make a positive change at half-time and get an extra winger on the pitch. and Moi (Caicedo) has done that job very well before against Everton and Ndiaye inverting from right-back.
“You try and make positive changes to influence the game and that change up until the second goal, you watch the game back, we arrived in the final third time and time and time again without that clinical moment and we make a mistake for the second goal.”
“It’s a moment of switching off (for the opening goal). I want to protect my players always and I take responsibility for that lapse in concentration, but that’s what it is and that’s happened too many times in my time recently for me not to tell the truth as it is.”
Rosenior asked if there is a lack of effort, including from Enzo Fernandez following his expression of doubt over his future: “I don’t think there’s a lack of effort, I don’t think there’s a lack of belief or determination in the team.
“I felt like Enzo kept going until the very, very last minute today.
“I’m aware that when we’re on a run of defeats and performances that we’ve had, those things get levelled at you but I don’t think that’s the issue in this moment.”
Chelsea boss Liam Rosenior on the defeat: “The most disappointing evening so far, in terms of the things we’ve spoken about. Not gifting goals away and making sure we’re in the game and get control of the game.
“It wasn’t there and it turned into a really, really difficult evening where the result was nowhere near what we expected or wanted.”
Everton striker Beto: “I don’t think I’m a hero. I feel like I’m home. Playing for Everton is something unbelievable. You just want to give your all and help the team with goals, assists, good performances, anything. I’m really happy.
“Today was a must win game for us. Since we came out of the hotel the fans were shouting. They knew. They were feeling like we need to win this game, so we did a great performance, three goals, clean sheet. We are happy.”
Everton midfielder James Garner on the atmosphere at the Hill Dickinson Stadium: “Yeah that was the best I have see it, and to top it of with a win amazing.”
A brilliant performance and result for Everton, who were the better team from minute one. It moves them up to seventh, just three points behind rivals Liverpool in fifth and with a real shot of qualifying for European football.
Chelsea were simply not good enough today, lacking effort, intensity and belief. A dangerous display for Rosenior who must start to find solutions.
Iroegbunam dribbles the whole way though the Chelsea defence before striking at goal.
His effort is kept out by Sanchez.
Five minutes of injury time have been added on.
Still time for things to get worse for Chelsea.
Ndiaye and Dewsbury-Hall are replaced by Rohl and Iroegbunam.
Just one minute plus added time remaining for the hosts to see out.
Fofana puts a late challenge in on Gueye.
The Chelsea defender receives a yellow card.
It is almost four for Everton as Dewsbury-Hall is denied by Sanchez.
The former Chelsea man twists and turns before finding space to shoot against his former club. However, it is a fairly routine stop for Sanchez.
Ndiaye leaves one in on Fernandez, prompting a reaction from him, Garnacho and Cucurella.
Chelsea’s frustrations are evident and their discipline issues could re-emerge.
There will be no hat trick for Beto today as Moyes takes him off.
Barry replaces him and is booed by some of the home crowd, following an incident in the away end last Saturday.
Caicedo and Pedro are replaced by Tosin and Delap.
A very disappointing display from the visitors today and it will not help Rosenior’s position.
Moyes must now feel the result is safe and turns to his bench.
McNeil is replaced by Branthwaite.
Everton have a third and it is brilliantly taken by Ndiaye!
Pickford’s goal kick is flicked on by Beto and into the path of Ndiaye. He takes on Caicedo, who is currently playing at right-back, cuts inside and curls it perfectly onto the top corner.
Estevao is on for Chelsea, who have 20 minutes to try and rescue a result here.
Neto makes way after a quiet afternoon.
