‘Extremely expensive’ – David Moyes on Declan Rice’s West Ham future

West Ham boss David Moyes says Declan Rice is going to be “extremely expensive” for any interested buyers this summer.

Rice played a pivotal role in West Ham’s 1-0 win over Manchester United on Sunday night to all but confirm their Premier League safety.

According to Squawka, Rice has won possession more times than any other player across Europe’s top five leagues with 322 and is the only player to have recorded more than 30 interceptions, clearances, take-ons completed, aerial duels won, chances created and shots.

Sky Sports say West Ham are willing to let Rice leave the club this summer for £120m, or £100m plus a player, with Arsenal among the clubs said to be interested in the 24-year-old.

And Moyes says he is not surprised to hear Rice is leading in many key stats across Europe’s top five leagues, while admitting that an enormous offer could mean he leaves West Ham this summer.

“Again, he was outstanding tonight, but I thought we had some really big performers,” he said following the win over Man Utd.

“It’s no surprise to me, he’s got a great talent of regaining the ball. You’ve seen him play for England, you’ve seen his abilities of recovering the ball and getting around people.

“He’s great across the ground, he’s very quick. I’m pleased but not surprised.

“He’s probably the best player, best English player and midfielder around, and that’s why he’s going to be extremely expensive if anyone comes calling.”
