Fletcher says United should have beaten Burnley

“People are striving for perfection. Look at the game the other night, we conceded one shot on goal, another off target and drew 2-2. You’ve got to be able to deal with them constantly.”

Fletcher on whether Noussair Mazraoui or Bryan Mbeumo could play against Brighton

Both Mazraoui and Mbeumo are back from AFCON but Fletcher doesn’t think either will be ready to play against Brighton.

“I don’t think so – it’s too close a turnaround. So we’ll have the same players available we had against Burnley, no new additions.”

Fletcher says he has not spoken with Sir Jim Ratcliffe

“I’ve not, no. I speak to Omar [Berrada] and Jason [Wilcox], that’s how the process works. For me, I’ve been focusing on the job in hand. There have been no thoughts from me on my future. I lead the team, guide the team, there’s been no conversations outside of those two people.”

Fletcher expands on the academy

“We ask too much of young people in society at times, and in general. We have to let them learn, educate them, help them, understand they will make mistakes.”

Fletcher on United's academy

“I think historically this club is built around the academy, we’ve got an amazing academy, our record speaks for itself.

“I can’t stand here and say anything other than that. We’ve got an amazing record which is hard to beat. We have some amazing players with some amazing talent, what I see is a lot of hard work, humble young players who aren’t perfect because they’re young and learning.”

Fletcher on Harry Maguire

“He’s been out for a while. We’re looking at his load, that decision has not been made. When you see the players coming back, you saw with Mason Mount and Bruno Fernandes, there has to be some understanding with their first minutes.”

Darren Fletcher on Kobbie Mainoo

“He seems in a good place. Kobbie doesn’t give you much, so never really know. He’s like that, it’s just his natural way, I know him well, I’ve seen him around the building and had conversations with him.

“He’s in a good place, I know Kobbie and I think he knows me. He’s comfortable with this environment. He’s trained well.”

Marco Silva on Fulham’s form

“It doesn’t surprise me at all. Of course, we, like every side in the world, we are going to be stronger if you have all the players available.

“If you have a competition in the session, each one of them can compete for the positions.”

Emery on January transfers

“The club is working with the people responsible around possibilities. In case we can improve our squad we can do it, or in case someone is leaving as well.

“I am happy how we are doing the process this year.”

Nuno Espirito Santo on James Ward-Prowse

“The situation with James is clear from some time ago. I think he is not in the options and it’s for us to find the best solutions for his future.”

Rob Edwards on tactical changes

“I said this to the lads in the first meeting – we are probably best-suited to a back three or a back five. But the top part of the team might change and tweak, which it has done throughout my time here so far.

“Personnel-wise, there have been a couple of little changes and that’s maybe what’s caught peoples attention a little bit more – more so than the shape. We’ll always try and pick what is right for the team and try and win games of football.”

Rosenior on goalkeepers

“Every team is different. You work to the ability of your players. You work to what their strengths are. I am very fortunate that Jorgensen and Sanchez are world-class goalkeepers with their feet, but I am not going to come in and tell them to do it for the first day.

“I feel very confident I can bring the best out of this team, but I can be adaptable and it’s about playing to the players’ strengths.”

Rosenior on Reece James

Rosenior says Reece James can reach a level ‘beyond’ where he is currently at, and that he is very excited to work with the Chelsea captain.

Rosenior on FA Cup game against Charlton

“Nathan (Jones) is top. He has had an outstanding career as a manager. It is going to be a very difficult game, they have such intensity. It is going to be a difficult English cup tie in January and my players need to be able to stand up to that.

“You have to win duels, headers, you have to run and that is the message that I have given to the players.”

Rosenior on building a team

Rosenior says he wants opposition teams to ‘fear’ coming to Stamford Bridge.

Rosenior on his personal journey

“I just said you don’t limit your ambitions. I am not arrogant, but I am good at what I do. Every job I have worked, whether it be an interim or assistant, relative to the group, I have always been successful.

“I have always wanted to be at a club like this.

“Nobody can guarantee wins or success but I have worked very hard for a long time to be successful.”

Rosenior on Chelsea's potential

“I’ve said to the players, focus on winning the next game. That’s how we go on a run. The talent we have, the engagement to something new, there’s really positive signs. The potential for this club is limitless, and I won’t limit limitlessness.”

Rosenior on pride at being a black manager in the Premier League

Rosenior says he is ‘very proud’ to be a black manager in the Premier League.

Rosenior on how he works

“I don’t think it is possible to be in this job and not be your own man. I understand, I am not an alien and I know what is being said in the press, but there is no way you can be a manager if you don’t make the decisions for yourself.

“We have had huge success at Strasbourg and I intend to work the same way here.”

Rosenior on the club's disciplinary issues this season

“It is one of the few things that we can improve on. I know how we do that. I have spoken to the players about managing setbacks.

“They show passion and emotion for the shirt. It is making sure in key moments we react positively to setbacks, but I think mistakes come from passion and I don’t want to take that out of them.

“To win you cannot be nice all the time, you have to have an edge and I don’t want to take that away from the lads.”

Rosenior backs himself as Chelsea manager

Rosenior says ‘I’m good at what I do,’ when asked if he ever thought managing Chelsea was a possibility.

Rosenior on the turnover of managers at Chelsea

“I think the [general] turnover of managers now is huge. The pressure is there from day one and if I wasn’t willing to take on that pressure and privilege I wouldnt’ be here.

“I am looking forward to it. I can’t wait for tomorrow night. The players and staff have been nothing but supportive and made me feel at home.

“If you are scared or fearful there is no point being a coach. I am going to work 24 hours a day. I am going to push them to try and be successful.”

Rosenior on his biggest challenge

“I think the biggest challenge in any club in any team is to create the right culture, the right spirit and the right values.

“The talent levels I have seen over the last few days – the ability levels are world class.

“The previous coach Enzo [Maresca] has done a good job tactically and it is my job to take it to the next level and me and my staff are going to work very hard to do that.”

Rosenior on what it's like working under the Chelsea owners

“I think it’s the same at every club. Every club is unique. My time at Strasbourg was the best of my professional career. I can say the guys I have worked with here have been nothing but supportive of me. There is always going to be speculation about how these things work. I intend to enjoy my time here.”
