Updates throughout the day from today’s Premier League manager pre-match press conferences.
Pep Guardiola on Oscar Bobb: “He was out all of last season with a tough injury. He started really well playing in the first two or three games but after he hasn’t played because I’ve rotated the team.
“He has to believe. The moment he believes in himself and how good he is, he will make the next step in his career as a football player.”
In another boost for Man City, Rodri is also available, Guardiola says.
“I think he will be ready to help us. I don’t know from the beginning but hopefully he can be with us.”
Pep Guardiola has confirmed that Erling Haaland is available for the game against Bournemouth after missing the Carabao Cup clash against Swansea.
Frank says Spurs are being cautious with Dominic Solanke’s return and that he won’t be back before the international break.
Romero, Udogie and Odobert are available for selection for Spurs this weekend, says Thomas Frank.
Thomas Frank and Pep Guardiola are among the managers speaking this afternoon.
Updates to come.
Mikel Arteta says he hopes to the increasingly busy fixture schedule does not end up resulting in players taking a stand.
“Hopefully not. If we look after the players’ welfare and our supporters, I think we’re never going to get to that point. And that’s it. We have to close the window there. We cannot open that window. It has to be closed. It’s our most precious value. We have the best league in the world and we cannot just open any window for anything just to lose that because we don’t respect that, and we forget what we are made of and what makes this game and this league so, so special. And if we respect that, I’m sure we’re going to be totally fine.”
Enzo Maresca on Cole Palmer’s recovery: “I just met him in the canteen for breakfast and I told him, I will say that in one week you are back. He was laughing.
“Now with Cole, exactly the same plan. Wait and hopefully he can be back soon.”
Enzo Maresca clarifies his criticism of Liam Delap after the striker’s red card against Wolves: “Probably because I’m not from England so sometimes when I try to translate from Italian to English sometimes it’s a bit different.
“Liam when he’s inside the pitch is more focused to do his battle against the central defender than the rest. This was what I was telling, what I was trying to say after that game.”
Following his sending off on his return from injury for Chelsea, Blues boss Enzo Maresca has backed Liam Delap to improve and says he will be a “fantastic player” for Chelsea.
He also says the striker has apologised for his red card.
Arteta also says he hopes to have Martin Odegaard, Kai Havertz and Noni Madueke back soon, possibly in time for the north London derby.
Mikel Arteta has just been speaking to the media.
He says Gabriel Martinelli is likely to miss the game against Burnley, while William Saliba also remains a doubt.
“When people ask me after the game ‘why was it difficult?’ I try and explain why it was difficult and I answer that – people don’t ask me why I come up with excuses and then I give an answer.
”I tried to explain for the first time after Man Utd because the games before that I felt it would be stupid to say so because I’m not 100% sure if everybody is already noticing what we are seeing. Then I underestimate a lot of analysts throughout the country.
“But if it happens after the 10th game and nine of them were so much focus on long balls, I think it is fair for me to say that without opening the eyes of upcoming opponents.
“These two teams we face now indeed bring the ball out from the back more but they are also very good at it. City are a high-pressing team that are really good at high-pressing but I did see Villa being able to play through that multiple times. And if I am 100% correct, they won the game by a set-piece. So, again, another time the importance of a set-piece.”
Arne Slot was keen to stress that his assessment of Liverpool’s recent struggles should not be viewed as him making excuses.
“If I am speaking about what we have to improve, people will say I’m using excuses so maybe now it is better to just say we need to address certain things to do better.
”But, there are a lot of positives to go into this week as well. Quality of the players is the first and foremost and the amount of chances we create from open play is still good enough to compete for the competitions we want to compete for.”
“That has been something that every team has, so it is not an excuse, but what was a bit different than last season is last season, they all had one year Premier League experience as a minimum, they were all fit when we started and they stayed fit.
“Now, they weren’t all fit from the start and some players have to play more than you want them to do and that is a risk of them getting injured as well.
“That is just the situation as it is and we have more than enough good players available to play the game on Saturday, Tuesday and Sunday but I have to take care of them and that’s why I made the decision to not play some a few days ago.”
“I’m completely happy with the team and all the quality we have, and I’m also completely convinced by the strategy and policy we have.
“The issue is not all of them have had a proper pre-season or have been injured during the season.
”When three or four are injured you go back to 16 players. I’m a firm believer that 20 or 21 players is enough but you have to keep them fit.”
Arne Slot has arrived and says Ryan Gravenberch has been back in training ahead of the game against Aston Villa.
“Ryan trained with us for the first time yesterday and will train with us today,” he said. “Then we’re going to make the call if he can start, yes or no.”
But Curtis Jones and Alexander Isak are both set to miss the game.
“The other two I’m probably 99.9% sure are not in the squad on Saturday.”
We’re still waiting on Arne Slot to arrive for his pre-match press conference.
