Oliver Glasner believes his team need to “stay humble” after their 1-0 loss to AEK Larnaca in the UEFA Conference League.

English sides West Ham and Chelsea have both won the competition in the past three years, but both Tottenham and Leicester failed to go all the way when they were in it.

The Crystal Palace boss indicated that English sides believe that they will win the tournament with ease, often underestimating their opposition.

“You are always told when you play in the Premier League you win the Conference League,” the Palace boss said.

“Stay humble. I don’t know if any debutant is able to win the competition. I don’t think so.

“We will learn from it, the players will learn. It’s disappointing, a frustrating night, but maybe the whole environment needed it to stay humble.”

Jean-Philippe Mateta and Eddie Nketiah both missed huge chances throughout the match to score Palace’s first home European goal and the Palace boss says that his side need to be more clinical.

He added: “This is what we can blame us for, but on the other side, no player does it on purpose. And now it’s to support them, not to blame anybody.

“And now we need to keep going. If we have five clear chances and don’t score, we will try to create seven, eight or nine the next time.”
