Pep Guardiola admits he has been surprised by how quickly new signing Jeremy Doku has settled into life at Manchester City.

Doku assisted four times and scored as City smashed Bourmemouth 6-1 to move top of the Premier League, with Tottenham not playing until Monday and Arsenal suffering defeat at Newcastle.

The winger joined the current champions in August for £55m has enjoyed a fine start at the club.

And his manager lauded the impact he has made since joining.

“He’s surprised all of us. He’s a great footballer,” Guardiola said.

“He reads every action, exactly what he has to do. Of course that quality close to the box, we always talk about that.

“He creates something for the crowd, when he takes the ball and goes everybody is excited. Myself too. Something is going to happen, and it’s happened.”

Doku has been playing on the left side for Man City so far but Guardiola says his ability to adapt to playing on the right is the next step for the 21-year-old.

“On the left side, normally there are a lot of wingers who go inside. This guy, epspecially, you don’t know what he’s going to do,” Guardiola added.

“But now we have to try to convince him that he can do it on the right side. His next step, the same on the left, he has to do on the right. In the second half in Switzerland against Young Boys on right side, he played really good too.

“His next step is he has to do it, for us it’s so important to have a player who can play both sides and have a player who is so decisive like he’s been.”
