Team news

Germany will be without defender Nico Schlotterbeck after he was ruled out for the remainder of the tournament.

Paraguay will definitely be without suspended midfielder Diego Gomez, while Omar Alderete and Ramon Sosa are fitness doubts.

Germany boss Julian Nagelsmann: “They are an uncomfortable opponent for us.

“In qualification they conceded very few goals. They are going to ask a lot of us. It’s a do or die match. The boys will bring their A-game. We have to be patient.

“It’s a team which defends well and they stay compact. They have good players and strong physical players. We need a perfect performance.”

Paraguay boss Gustavo Alfaro: “We ​have been up against Argentina, we have been up against Brazil, teams with ‌the same stature or perhaps even more stature than Germany.

“They’re all candidates for world champions. We faced them and it was tough for us but we pulled it off.”
