Recent form

After losing 1-0 to Aston Villa, Pep Guardiola’s men have bounced back with two 3-1 wins away at Swansea in the EFL Cup and at home to high-flying Bournemouth in the Premier League. In their last Champions League fixture they ran out 2-0 winners away against Villarreal.

Borussia Dortmund come into this fixture aiming to earn their fifth consecutive win in all competitions. Their last loss came against Bayern Munich in October. Their last Champions League tie was away in Denmark against Copenhagen which they won 4-2.

What’s been said?

Pep Guardiola does not underestimate the importance of winning home fixtures in the Champions League.

“Always in the Champions League in the old format if you make nine points home and one victory away always you will qualify.

“Now it’s completely different. I’m not saying it will be easy because Dortmund in this competition, they always perform their best and always arrive in the latter stage and always go through in the group stages.”

Dortmund boss Nico Kovac confirmed that he will rotate his side after revealing that Niklas Sule and Julian Brandt will be missing the fixture through injury.

“That means there will be some physical toll,” Kovac said. “We’ll definitely rotate. Whether that’ll happen tomorrow (Tuesday), I haven’t decided yet.

“In the coming games, it will definitely be the case, so that everyone gets their minutes. We also need to make sure we don’t risk injuries by overplaying someone.”
