‘I back myself’ – Nketiah dismisses chances of leaving Arsenal

Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah is backing himself to play a big role at the club next season amid speculation over his future.

Nketiah made 30 Premier League appearances for the Gunners last season but struggled for goals, scoring just four times in the league and Arsenal are said to be willing to listen to offers for the 24-year-old this summer.

But speaking after the Gunners’ 1-1 draw with FC Nurnberg in Germany, a confident Nketiah said he believes he can impress next season.

“Obviously there’s always going to be competition,” Nketiah said.

“It’s a big club, but I back myself. I know what I can bring to help the team.

“We’re all going to have to play our part, we’re all going to have to chip in so hopefully we can all do that to help the team.

“As players we’ve just got to give him (Mikel Arteta) that headache by performing, training well, and doing well in the games and that’s what I’m going to keep doing, and I’m sure the other boys will.”

Arsenal have added Kai Havertz to their attacking options this summer following his £65m move from Chelsea, and are also set to sign Declan Rice and Jurrien Timber for £105m and aroud £40m respectively.

It means the Gunners will likely need to get players out if they are to make further additions to the squad, but Nketiah says he is looking forward to being part of a group which is hoping to once again push for the Premier League title.

“We’ve had a taste of what it’s like, we know what we need to do to sustain that and be there come the end of the season,” he added.

“We’re all hungry to keep pushing and have a good season.”
