Man Utd forward Marcus Rashford says he had to turn off the TV before Man City’s celebrations following their Champions League and treble glory.

United’s rivals capped off a memorable treble after beating Inter Milan 1-0 in the Champions League final, having already secured the double the week prior by beating Rashford’s side in the FA Cup final.

And while he watched the Champions League final in full, the 25-year-old revealed he did not want to watch his club’s biggest rivals celebrating their treble-winning season.

“I like watching football, I like watching the best games, so that’s what I did,” he said.

“But after they won the game, I don’t need to watch them celebrating and all that stuff. So, TV off.”

Rashford was speaking ahead of England’s EURO 2024 qualifier against Malta on Friday, with Man City’s treble-winning England stars set to be assessed ahead of the clash to deem whether they can play or not following the Champions League final and the celebrations that followed.

But Rashford insists he is seeing the light side of their late arrivals.

“It’s going to be funny,” he said.

“But like I said, it’s congratulations to them and, for me, they deserved it. They played the best football this year and there’s not much more to say about it really.”

And asked whether it makes him more determined to catch City next season, Rashford added: “That was always the aim anyway, regardless of their success this year or in previous years.

“It’s not anything new, the only thing new is that they managed to win all three.

“Like I said before, they’re a very good team and it’s not just us that are trying to catch up to them. It’s pretty much every team.

“Is it a challenge? Yeah, but we can’t shy away from it. We have to face it and try to do our best next season.”
