Mikel Arteta has reiterated his desire to keep Aaron Ramsdale at the club, despite the keeper falling to second choice behind David Raya.
Ramsdale played 90 minutes against Brentford in the league, due to Raya’s ineligibility to play, but the former Bournemouth keeper has been predominantly used as a cup keeper.
With Nick Pope sidelined for Newcastle for up to five months, there are rumours circulating that Ramsdale could seek a move in January for more first team football.
Arteta quickly ruled out a potential move, stating that he wants Ramsdale to stay at Arsenal beyond the January window.
“I want Aaron with us. I am very happy to have two very very good goalkeepers and Aaron is staying with us”, Arteta said.
“He is willing to play. Like any player, he wants to play for Arsenal. That is what he wants to do. Then the other is a consequence.
“I will not say that no player is going to go to Newcastle. Or no member of the staff either. I will not say it. If you say yes or no, I will not say it.”
“We want to be better, so we want to add to what we already have. That is the intention that we have.”
Ramsdale has made just five appearances in the Premier League this season. With the Euros coming up in the summer, the lack of regular football may jeopardise his chances of making the final squad.
Arteta has made sure Ramsdale will be supported at Arsenal to make sure he is still on the radar of Gareth Southgate.
“For England it is not like he has started a lot of games, so hopefully we can help him be better here so then he can play for England”, said the Arsenal boss.
Arteta refused to entertain talk about any of his Arsenal players potentially moving on in the upcoming window.
“I will not do that to any player. Any player. I cannot tell you that any Arsenal player is not going to leave in January. Or he is to stay here for the next three years.”
