Kelleher discusses his competition with Alisson at Liverpool

Caoimhin Kelleher discussed competing with Alisson for the number one spot at Liverpool, with the Irishmen set to feature tomorrow in the Europa League against Toulouse tomorrow night.

Kelleher has featured twice in the Europa League this season and once in the Carabao Cup win against Bournemouth last week but has been largely occupying the bench as Alisson- arguably the best goalkeeper in world football at the moment- continues to perform at a high level for Liverpool.

Kelleher spoke ahead of Liverpool’s trip to France and reflected on how grateful he is to take his chance when Jurgen Klopp presents it to him.

He said: “It’s always really important for me in terms of building up that match sharpness, to get a good run of games is important for me and my development, I want to continue that ambition to be the number one.

“Personally, for me to play as much as I can, for the team as a whole we want to win some trophies, we’re taking it game by game, my main focus is on the game tomorrow.

“Clearly I’m still back up to Alisson at the moment! My ambition is obviously to play as many games as I can.

“At the moment I’m back up, but my ambition has always been to be number 1. Right now, I’m just trying to make the most of it.”

Kelleher also spoke about his side’s chances of winning the competition, with Liverpool favorites to go all the way and reach the final which will be played in Dublin.

“I think the main objective was always qualifying first from the group. But, like we always do, our main aim is to win any competition we’re in!”
