Klopp ‘confident’ of securing top summer targets

Jurgen Klopp says he is confident that Liverpool will be able to sign the players they want this summer.

The Reds were widely expected to once again challenge for the Premier League title this season but have endured a disappointing campaign and sit fifth heading into the clash with Brentford on Saturday.

Klopp’s side have hit form of late, however, winning the past five league games and still have a very slim chance of qualifying for the Champions League.

Liverpool have been heavily linked with a move for Brighton midfielder Alexis Mac Allister this summer, and while Klopp would not be drawn on individual names, he says the club will strengthen ahead of next season and is confident of landing his top targets.

“We will bring in players,” he said.

“I’m pretty sure we will bring in the players we want and the players who will help us. I’m pretty confident of that, but you never know 100% until they’ve signed.

“If you identify a position or something like that, you don’t have only one option in that position.

“They should all be good, really good. Of course we might have a favourite but if the other club then doesn’t want to sell or somebody else will pay the price, then we cannot go with that.

“But usually we’ve got the players we’ve wanted, and if we want them and we can afford them, then they are here. That’s how it is.”

Liverpool will be looking to make it six wins on the bounce against Brentford, who have enjoyed a fine campaign and have won their past two games against Nottinghm Forest and Chelsea.

Klopp also urged his side to keep their positive run going in order to help them improve next season.

“Each positive performance we have now helps us, helps the players,” he said.

“We cannot just replace the whole team and think that everything (changes).

“I understand life as if you have a problem, you sort it better here and now, because if you just move on you have the same problem.

“We have to give the boys a frame where they can perfom because I see them every day and I know they want to perform. Everything that we do well now will help us for next season.”
