Klopp on injuries: Jota looks the worst

Jurgen Klopp said the injuries sustained by Diogo Jota and Curtis Jones in the 4-1 win over Brentford “don’t look good.”

Liverpool ran out as comfortable winners in what was a tricky game to navigate at the Gtech Community Stadium, as the returning Mohamed Salah shined with a goal and an assist off the bench with Cody Gakpo and Nunez also scoring.

It meant Liverpool retained their spot at the top of the Premier League but it was marred by a trio of injuries to key personnel. Brentford’s Christian Nørgaard accidentally landed on Jota’s knee as the pair tussled for possession, resulting in the Portuguese being stretchered from the field.

Jones was brought off after landing awkwardly on his ankle whereas Nunez did not emerge for the second half after informing Klopp of a niggle he picked up.

Liverpool have Luton at home in midweek before Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday. Liverpool’s injury list also contains Alisson, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Dominik Szoboszlai and Thiago, with the side teetering towards a crisis in the medical department.

Klopp told his post-match press conference: “We have to see how much it costs us – we don’t know that yet.

“Curtis got a knock on the lower part of his shin, or above the ankle. We will see what that means. It was what he felt, but he was not 100 per cent sure. That Curtis cannot play on tells you that it must be something because he would have played on at all costs.

“Diogo looks probably the worst; I didn’t see it back, but I heard the pictures didn’t look great as well, so we have to see there.

“Darwin, we took off because he felt really a little but that was obviously today enough to immediately push the brake and that’s what we did, so we took him off and brought Cody on and that worked out really well.”
