Klopp: Szoboszlai might be back for Bournemouth

Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Dominik Szoboszlai is out of Liverpool’s FA Cup third-round trip to Arsenal on Sunday with a hamstring injury.

During Monday’s 4-2 win over Newcastle, Szoboszlai was brought off as a precaution by Klopp who noticed the midfielder clutching his hamstring.

Maybe it should be taken as no surprise that Szoboszlai has picked up a muscle injury, given that only Mohamed Salah (2,045) has played more minutes than the midfielder so far (1,840).

Szoboszlai was a pre-planned substitution against Newcastle but was brought off a minute sooner when he picked up the injury.

Klopp confirmed the nature of the injury and that he’ll be out for the next two games, but a possible return is on the cards for Liverpool’s away trip to Bournemouth at the end of the month.

Klopp said: “I can confirm it’s not a potential injury, it is an injury. Muscle, hamstring.

“Dom is very positive, doesn’t have a lot of pain, but we have to wait a little bit.

“So no chance obviously for Sunday, and not for Wednesday, then we will see after that. Hopefully, he might be back, but we don’t know.

“Besides that, nothing else really happened, the rest were available yesterday and fully fit. We will have to make a choice.”

As mentioned, Liverpool had taken measures to prevent any further injury concerns given the hectic schedule ahead of them, with Szoboszlai starting seven of Liverpool’s nine games in the month of December.

The hope for Liverpool is that Szoboszlai’s injury won’t be too prolonged, with the Hungarian among those considered to fill the void left by Mohamed Salah who has left for the African Cup of Nations.
