Klopp: Thiago’s injury not a big one

Jurgen Klopp is hopeful that Thiago will feature for Liverpool again this season after the midfielder suffered yet another injury setback following the 3-1 loss to Arsenal last weekend.

Thiago had been sidelined for 281 days with a hip injury and today Klopp confirmed that a muscle injury has now cropped up, with no timeline set for when he’ll return.

Thiago’s time at Anfield has been unfortunately hampered by injuries, with the 32-year-old missing 102 of the 200 games Liverpool have played since he joined.

With just five minutes of normal time to play and Liverpool 2-1 down to Arsenal, Klopp called upon Thiago to try turn the tide. It was a strange decision, given how long he had been absent for, but Klopp is optimistic that Thiago will play again this season.

Question marks hang over the Spaniard’s future at the club – with his contract set to expire at the end of the season. It is still unclear as to whether Liverpool will offer him a new deal.

“Thiago’s injury is not cool. Everything looked fantastic in training. We showed quite a lot of things on LFCTV where you can see his training moments and everything looks outstanding, so we take him, take the opportunity and let him play a few minutes and then yeah, it’s a muscle issue.

“We don’t know the extent yet, but it’s not cool of course and it’s really not good news for him and us. On top of losing the game, it’s not good.

“Yes, but we really didn’t think about that in the moment. It would not be a big story if he wasn’t out for a long time. It’s not a big, big injury, definitely not.”
