Enzo Maresca on Fofana’s injury, Chelsea’s recent form and more…
“In football, in one game, anything can happen. If you talk about the season, every time the best win. In the moment they are better than us but we can win any game.
“We have to focus not on the context but on the performance, what we have to do is the simple things. We need to improve the simple things to play these kinds of games.”
Amorim also says the club are near to agreeing an extension with Amad, whose current deal is up at the end of the season.
Amorim says Man Utd will activate the year extension option in Harry Maguire’s contract. “We are happy to continue with Harry.
“We will trigger our option. He needs to improve as a leader because we are starving for leaders on the pitch.”
Ruben Amorim says Marcus Rashford will miss Man Utd’s game with Liverpool through illness. “At the moment he is ill. He is not training. He is going to be out this week.”
“It’s not a matter of pushing but the club are working hard to get help for the playing group. It’s no secret we need to bolster numbers. January is not an easy month, we understand.”
Postecoglou on his injured players’ recoveries: “At this stage Richy (Richarlison) and Mikey Moore are the next cabs off the rank, we’re hoping next week. Ben (Davies), Micky (Van de Ven) and Romero all kind of around the same time, back end of January.”
Guglielmo Vicario is expected back in February.
Postecoglou also says there has been an illness going around the Spurs camp this week. “We’ve had a bit of an illness bug with a few not training.”
Ange Postecoglou has also been speaking to the media and says defender Destiny Udogie will be out for around six weeks with a hamstring injury in another injury blow for Spurs.
Maresca on the club’s plans with Anselmino: “At the moment the plan is to keep him here, allow him to work with us, and then make a decision.
“If he’s here, it’s because we think he’s a good player and he can help us. But he’s very young.”
“After tests, we realised it was worse than what we thought in the beginning.
“It’s his hamstring and unfortunately we’re going to lose him for a while.
“I don’t think this kind of injury can be compared to the rest (of his injuries). It’s a completely different kind of injury.
“It’s unlucky but he will be back.”
Maresca is asked if missing Lavia has had a big impact on the team: “Romeo, for us, is a top player. For sure with him we are a better team.
“We won games without Romeo but for sure if you ask me, we are a better team with Romeo, but not only him.”
“If we are in Champions League next season, we are all happy because it’s where the club should be.”
“Unfortunately he could be out for the season, yeah. We don’t know exactly if it’s for the entire season, he could be out for part of the season.
“Every time you ask me about Wes, I said many times that I’m in love with Wes, also because he is that kind of defender that gives you the chance to press and be aggressive and to leave him one v one.”
Maresca on Aaron Anselmino being recalled from his loan spell: “We need to give him time. When you come from the other side of the world, you need time to adapt.”
“The talent is not enough to win. We are adding other things like togetherness, becoming a team in difficult moments.
“The difference between us and City, Arsenal and Liverpool is that in that aspect they are more ready as a team than us.”
“I don’t think anyone expected us to be where we are now. We’re doing very well.”
Maresca on his previous claims that Chelsea are not in the title race, given their recent run: “I didn’t need to lose two games in a row to prove myself or to you that I was right.”
James set for Chelsea return: “Tomorrow is different, we can give him minutes. We all know how important he is for us so hopefully he can get minutes very soon.”
Enzo Maresca has arrived for his press conference. He says Romeo Lavia is getting closer to a return.
Wesley Fofana, however, will be out for a “very long time” in a blow for Chelsea. Benoit Badiashile is also out until at least February.

Pep Guardiola says Ederson is back in training and is hoping he will be able to return to the first team soon.
Kevin De Bruyne is out of contract at the end of the season and Pep Guardiola admits the club have a decision to make about whether to keep him at the club.
“He’s had problems in the last year, year and a half, like this year with many, many players, but of course when he’s consistent and fit and he can play regularly, I said many times, he’s a really important player for us, a decisive player.
“But it’s going to happen for the club, for how he’s going to perform until the end of the season, the age that he has, and many things. I think the club has to think about it.”
Pep Guardiola says he does not know whether he will be able to add to his squad this month. “I don’t know right now. It’s not easy, it will not be easy. Maybe we’ll sign, or maybe we don’t sign anyone.
“So I think the club has to be wise, don’t do it for doing it, just to add players. Of course for the situation that we have and from the perspective of the players that have had consistent injuries for many, many, many times, of course the club has to do it. But I don’t know if it will be possible.”
Guardiola says the injury situation is “quite similar” to what it was in their last game against Leicester.
