Liverpool midfielder Wataru Endo has pulled out of the Japan squad through injury.

Endo had been selected by his country to participate in the Kirin Challenge Cup matches against Paraguay and Brazil.

But it has now been confirmed that he will not be taking part.

“Japan National Team will be without Wataru Endo (Liverpool FC) due to injury in the Kirin Challenge Cup 2025 (October 10th vs. Paraguay in Osaka, October 14th vs. Brazil in Tokyo),” the Japan FA said in a statement.

The 32-year-old has played five times in all competitions for the Reds this season, and came on as a late substitute in the 2-1 defeat to Chelsea on Saturday.

It is unclear yet how severe the injury is and how long it will keep him out for.
