Live updates from Anfield as Liverpool host Arsenal in the Premier League.
Arne Slot gives his thoughts on boos towards Trent Alexander-Arnold:
“Everyone has the right to their own opinion, but it would not be fair to the whole of Liverpool to focus on the few that booed. If they want to, it’s fine by me. But there were a lot of people who were really positive as well.”
Full time it ends 2-2 at Anfield
An incredible game at Anfield! Liverpool went ahead early with goals from Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz but a fight back in the second half from Arsenal with goals from Gabriel Martinelli and Mikel Merino who also got sent off means the points are shared after 90 minutes of entertainment.
Liverpool thought they had gone and won it deep into stoppage time but the goal is disallowed by VAR!
Andy Robertson thinks he’s won it as he pokes home the rebound after Raya saved Virgil Van Dijk’s initial header from a corner but it is ruled out for a foul from Ibrahima Konate on Myles Lewis-Skelly before the ball had got to Van Dijk.
Arsenal nearly with a 10-man smash-and-grab. Martin Odegaard with an excellent jinking run at the home defence and his left-footed strike goes just wide of the post. Alisson was worried.
Liverpool are pushing for the winner but 10 men Arsenal defending for their lives!!!
A delicious ball is swung in from deep by Trent Alexander-Arnold and neither Diogo Jota or Darwin Nunez can stretch out enough to get a foot on it.
Five minutes added on at Anfield
Bukayo Saka is replaced by Oleksandr Zinchenko.
Harvey Elliott has come on and replaces Ryan Gravenberch.
After scoring the equaliser, Mikel Merino is now sent off for a second yellow. Arsenal down to 10 men with 10 minutes plus stoppage time to play.
GOAL! It’s 2-2 Mikel Merino levels it for Arsenal!
After a lengthy VAR check, the goal stands. A stunning strike from Ødegaard catches Alisson off guard, and while the keeper makes the initial save, Merino reacts quickest to head home the rebound. What a second-half response from Arteta’s side!
A lot of boos for Trent Alexander-Arnold as he comes on for Conor Bradley. There are cheers but it was definitely a mixed reception. After news broke last week he will be leaving the club at the end of the season.
You can hear them sing “There’s only one Conor Bradley.”
Triple substitution as Darwin Nunez, Alexis Mac Allister and Trent Alexander-Arnold come on for Gakpo, Bradley and Jones
The hosts are preparing triple substitutions as Darwin Nunez, Alexis Mac Allister and Trent Alexander-Arnold on their way for Liverpool
The Liverpool defender is booked for a rash challenge on Lewis-Skely.
Arsenal pushing hard for the equaliser. Ben White bursts into the box, dropping the shoulder to skip past Andy Robertson before firing a low shot across goal. Alisson gets his angles right and makes a solid save, with the loose ball falling kindly to a red shirt.
It remains 2-1
Gabriel Martinelli gets one back to make it 2-1
Just the response Arsenal were after. They score almost immediately after the restart. Leandro Trossard floats in a cross from the left, and Gabriel Martinelli glances a header into the far corner with Alisson having no chance.
GAME ON!
The second half is under way.
No changes for either side
Half time at Anfield. Liverpool lead 2-0 goals from Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz have the Reds in cruise control with quick-fire double
Wheres Arsenal are so slow and almost lethargic. Going out of the Champions League has hit those players hard. Big response needed from Mikel Arteta side in the second 45.
Almost a third for Liverpool. Mohamed Salah threads a ball through, but Ryan Gravenberch’s run from deep had been monitored and two sliding challenges at the near post stop the ball getting to the Dutchman.
Salah then gets blocked off by Myles Lewis-Skelly and gets a yellow card.
Liverpool were so close to going 3-0 up.
Ibrahima Konate sprinted down the right hand side before playing in Conor Bradley but his cut back to Luis Diaz wasn’t connected with properly and William Saliba does enough to stop a break away goal.
There’s a good chance for Bukayo Saka inside the six yard box but he smashes it over the bar
Two goals in three minutes and Liverpool double their lead. This time it’s Liverpool number 7 Luis Diaz who puts the ball in the back of the net.
Dominik Szoboszlai is free on the right wing and chases on to a ball forwards, he is able to pass it across the face of goal and Luis Diaz slides the ball into the unguarded net.
Cody Gakpo puts Liverpool are 1-0 up inside 20 minutes
Arsenal caught sleeping, they switch off for a second and Liverpool are alive to the situation. A quick throw in to the feet of Andy Robertson and he curls a delicious ball into Cody Gakpo and he can’t miss.
