Live updates from the Etihad Stadium as Manchester City take on Everton in the Premier League
“Yeah, he’s our key man, so what can I say?”, Guardiola said about his striker.
“At the same time, we cannot rely on just him, we want to do our own good things, so it’s not just us with Erling, you know?”
City get the job done, once again courtesy of Erling Haaland. Guardiola’s side shrugged off any hangover from the international break in the second-half, and ended up cruising to victory.
Moyes will be disappointed with the Everton performance in that second-half. The Toffees were certainly capable of more, as demonstrated in their first-half display.
Cherki is the latest man to play Haaland through and he is again denied by Pickford.
It looks like he will be forced to go without a hat-trick today.
Haaland is played through again and takes it round Pickford. However, he has gone too wide and the angle is too tight to finish from.
The Norwegian is still desperate for more.
Foden plays a great ball through for Haaland to secure his hat-trick.
The Norwegian is denied twice before it falls to Cherki, who is also denied.
Seven minutes of injury time have been added on.
Not quite sure where they have come from.
Dewsbury-Hall and Ndiaye make way for McNeil and Dibling.
Ndiaye has been far and away Everton’s best player this afternoon.
Savinho, Gonzalez and O’Reilly come off.
Cherki, Kovacic and Lewis are on.
O’Reilly is down with an injury that does not look good.
Worrying sight for Guardiola.
Rohl goes close with a header for Everton.
The game is drifting away from the Toffees now.
Moyes decides to change his striker for the final 15 minutes.
Barry replaces Beto.
Gueye and Alcaraz make way for the visitors.
Iroegbunam and Rohl are on.
City double their advantage and Haaland has his second of the day.
Savinho cuts it back to Haaland and he fires at goal but Pickford should do better.
Doku and Reijnders are replaced by Bobb and Silva.
The substitutes were ready to come on prior to the opening goal.
City take the lead and of course it is Haaland with the goal.
A nice move finds O’Reilly in space down the left-hand side and he plays a great cross onto the head of Haaland. The Norwegian directs his header perfectly to give City the lead.
The second half has started in the same way that the first half went.
Expect Guardiola to turn to his bench sooner rather than later.
Reijnders takes the kick off for the hosts.
We are underway in the second half.
The end of the first half and Everton will certainly be the happier of the two sides. The Toffees have defended well and carried a threat on the break, Moyes will be hoping for more of the same in the second half.
City have looked a little sluggish, giving up possession numerous times and lacking a cutting edge in the final third. Perhaps the international break has disrupted their rhythm, but Guardiola’s side will need to shift into gear if they want to claim all three points.
Savinho brings down a long ball brilliantly before beating two men and getting his shot off.
Pickford gets down well to deny him.
Just two minutes have been added on at the end of the first-half.
It looks like we will he heading in goalless at the break.
Donnarumma is forced into action for the first time to deny Ndiaye.
Everton have a corner to follow.
The first yellow card of the afternoon is shown to Everton’s Garner.
City are struggling to create chances here.
The Norwegian goes close for the first time this afternoon.
He wins the header from a City corner but is denied by the woodwork.
City give up possession cheaply, gifting Everton a huge opportunity.
Ndiaye drives forward and squares it for Beto. Stretching to reach it, the striker fails to connect cleanly with ball and cannot turn it into the goal.
Both sides have had the ball in the opposition’s box on a couple of occasions but the first shot of the game comes from distance.
It is O’Reilly who drags an effort just wide of Pickford’s goal.
