Man Utd ‘doing everything’ to sign new striker

Erik ten Hag insists Manchester United are doing “everything” to bring a new striker to the club.

United signed Wout Weghorst on a short-term loan deal last season due to their shortage of strikers, who has now returned to parent club Burnley, while Anthony Martial again suffered injury problems last season.

Ten Hag is keen to sign Atalanta striker Rasmus Højlund but the club have limited money to spend after splashing out almost £100m on Mason Mount and Andre Onana already this summer.

But the United boss insists they are working hard to address the issue.

“We do a lot across Man Utd, with a lot of people, we do everything in our power to get the right man in,” he said.

“I am aware about finance and about FFP, but across United we do everything to get our targets in.

“We put every effort in to get this done because it’s an area where we need improvement.”

Meanwhile, forward Mason Greenwood’s future remains unclear after the Crown Prosecution Service discontinued its case against him for attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Greenwood is suspended from training and matches while the club completes its own investigation and ten Hag says he has made his feelings on the matter clear to the club – though would not give any detail as to what his thoughts are.

He added: “It’s a club decision. Of course I have said my ideas and opinions but it’s a club decision. We all have to accept that.

“I can’t say so much about it. But what I say is I shared my opinion about it so let’s see what’s going to happen and what the decision will be.”
