Amorim says Casemiro may have “wanted it too much in that moment” when asked about his red card.
“It’s the urgency that we need to win because the situation is so hard in this moment.
“The feeling that we go to the next game and we need to win. That is the only way.”
“It’s nice to win but let’s forget about it and return to that urgency. We need to win the next game. That is the most important thing.”
“That is the most important thing, the influence that he has on the squad,” Amorim said when asked about Bruno Fernandes.
“The point of the captain is to help the team to be better.
“I think he can play better but everyone can play better in our team.”
Ruben Amorim says Man Utd’s win over Chelsea was “really important” but admits his side cannot do things the simple way.
“With everything going well, we complicated it with the sending off.
“I think we managed the second half well but in the end, the last 15 minutes, was tough for us. They scored a goal and we suffered together.
“We show that when everything is going well, we arrange something to make it difficult.”
He also praises his team for the way they started the game.
Enzo Maresca admits he would have preferred Robert Sanchez not to have given away a foul and got sent off but conceded a goal.
“Probably it’s the best solution because we are still 95 minutes to play. I think even Robert is aware of that but also it’s difficult because he has to take a decision in one second or two seconds.
“But if you ask me I prefer to be 1-0 down after three minutes than one player down.”
“It’s a problem that is already a long time for him, his groin.
“He did this morning a test, he wants to play this game for the team so the effort has been huge for him but then after 20 minutes he started to feel something so we decide to change him.”
“They attack with five players always and we defend with four, and we can defend with four when we are 11 v 11.
“But 11 against 10, I think we need to defend all the width so we decide to go with a back five. This is the reason why.
“Garnacho was ready to go inside but then Wes (Fofana) asked for the change because he was tired after a long time (out) so we decide to go for Malo but the idea was to give Garnacho minutes.”
“He tried this morning, he had a test this morning to play this game.
“He was not 100% fit. He made a fantastic effort to play this game but he was not 100%.”
Enzo Maresca says any club would find it difficult to play with ten men at Old Trafford but admits his side should have started better.
Luke Shaw speaking to Sky Sports: “We spoke a lot before the game about winning, that was the most important thing today. You could see how much we wanted to win. The whole team defended really well and we’re happy with the three points. We started the game really well, really sharp and physical. We can punish teams with the chances we have created.
Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah speaking to Sky Sports after the defeat to Man Utd: “It wasn’t good enough from us as a club, the first 15 minutes was the worst we have played all season. We struggled in the first half.”
United dominated and were cruising towards victories for large periods of the game. However, entirely self-inflicted, they still ended up hanging on for the win in the closing stages. It is a crucial win for Amorim though.
Chelsea never looked like winning after Sanchez’s rash challenge saw them reduced to ten within the first five minutes. They did eventually fight back and make a game of it, but it was a disappointing evening for Maresca and his men.
United break forward after Chelsea commit men at the other end and Tosin makes the smart decision to take a yellow card.
He brings down Cunha to stop the dangerous attack.
Bayindir fumbles a cross and for a second it looks like it will drop to a blue shirt.
It does not and the danger is cleared but Chelsea can smell an equaliser.
There will be seven minutes of added time played.
This game is not over yet.
Fernandes comes off for United.
Mainoo replaces his captain.
A break in play is caused due to an issue with the referee’s communication device.
As it stands, it still feels like there is another goal in this game – the question is who will get it?
James miscontrols and gives up possession in a dangerous area to Fernandes.
United’s captain drives forward but his effort is tipped round the post by Jorgensen.
Chelsea have one back courtesy of a Chalobah header.
The United defence just stood by and watched as a short Chelsea corner was turned home with ease. Game on.
George is the next player to be shown a yellow card.
The winger tries to block Bayindir’s clearance but ends up catching the United goalkeeper.
Yoro also comes on in place of Maguire.
Amorim makes his usual 70th minute defensive substitution.
Garnacho will not get on the pitch on his return to Old Trafford, but Mount will feature against his former club.
The away supporters boo as Mount replaces Mbeumo.
Maresca makes his last changes of the evening, sending on George and Gusto for Cucurella and Fofana.
Pedro will certainly be pleased to see the attacking move, he has been operating as a one man band up front for Chelsea.
