Live updates from Old Trafford as Michael Carrick’s Manchester United host Thomas Frank’s Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League.

Carrick praises player buy in

Michael Carrick was full of praise for his players after today’s win, hailing their “buy in” to his methods.

Frank proud despite defeat

Thomas Frank also says he is proud of the resilience his players showed following Romero’s red card.

Udogie to be assessed

Frank is unsure of the severity of Udogie’s injury and says he will be assessed.

Frank says Romero has apologised

Thomas Frank says Cristian Romero apologised to his Spurs team-mates following his red card today. The Spurs boss also reiterated his importance to the team.

Bruno Fernandes praises Carrick

Bruno Fernandes speaking to TNT Sports: “Michael came in with the right ideas of giving the players responsibility but also some freedom to take the responsibility on the pitch to take decisions.

“He’s very good with his words. I was sure that Michael could be a great manager and he’s just showing it.

“We hope that we can help him even more.”

Full-time (2-0)

It turned out to be a pretty straightforward day in the office for United, who comfortably claimed their fourth successive victory. It is also four wins from four for Carrick, who must be enjoying his time in the Old Trafford dugout. It was not their best performance but they got the job done.

Another disappointing day for Tottenham, whose poor Premier League form continues. In truth it was not a bad display from the ten men they had on the pitch for the majority of the game. Romero’s reckless challenge cost Spurs the game today and Frank will hope it does not cost him his job.

90'+6
Huge chance for Sesko (2-0)

United tear forward and have a golden opportunity to add to their lead in the final seconds.

Fernandes chips it into Sesko who is completely alone in the penalty area but the Slovenian heads it straight at Vicario.

90'+2
Fletcher on (2-0)

The final United change sees Mainoo withdrawn.

Carrick sends on Tyler Fletcher.

90'
Five minutes added (2-0)

Five minutes of injury time have been added on.

This result certainly seems settled.

87'
United triple change (2-0)

Carrick takes off Shaw, Casemiro and Mbeumo.

Mazraoui, Ugarte and Zirkzee are sent on for the final minutes

81'
GOAL 2-0

Just as Tottenham were starting to sense an opportunity to steal something, United score their second.

It is Fernandes who finally beats Vicario, this time with a simple finish at the back-post after a Dalot cross.

80'
Tottenham triple change (1-0)

Bissouma, Tel and Kolo Muani are sent on by Frank.

Palhinha, Gallagher and Solanke are the trio that make way.

74'
Sesko on (1-0)

The match winner last weekend, Sesko is sent on by Carrick.

Cunha is the man to make way after a relatively quiet afternoon from the Brazilian.

70'
Palhinha booked (1-0)

After a Spurs attack breaks down, Palhinha slides in to win it back high up the pitch.

He takes the ball but a free-kick and yellow card is awarded against him.

61'
Dalot goes close (1-0)

It is the turn of the other United full-back to test Vicario next.

The hosts’ corner eventually comes out to Dalot on the edge of the box and his curling effort forces Vicario to get down at full stretch.

60'
Shaw strikes well (1-0)

Shaw drives forward and strikes one well from a fair distance out.

It is hit with power but is fairly central and Vicario tips it over the crossbar.

57'
Simons goes close (1-0)

Simons strikes a bouncing ball from range with his left-foot.

It would have been a truly special goal and he catches it well but it flies just wide.

54'
Udogie off (1-0)

More bad news for Frank and Spurs as Udogie is forced off with injury.

19-year-old January signing Souza comes on to make his debut.

51'
Casemiro tests Vicario again (1-0)

Casemiro again tries his luck from range but it goes straight down the throat of Vicario.

It must be the third or fourth shot on target from the veteran midfielder this afternoon, but he is yet to beat Vicario.

49'
United goal disallowed (1-0)

United have the ball in the net again but it will not count.

It is Amad who turns it home from a Shaw cross, however the flag goes straight up for offside and the goal will not stand.

46'
Second half underway (1-0)

Fernandes takes the kick-off for the hosts and we are back underway in the second half.

No substitutions were made by either manager at the break.

Half-time (1-0)

Well Spurs, and more specifically their captain, have certainly been the architects of their own downfall here. Frank’s side had been competing well for the first half an hour, before a completely unnecessary challenge turned everything against them.

United have played well so far, although not brilliantly. They have not been amazing but have done enough and deserve to lead. With the man advantage in the second-half, it should be a relatively straightforward afternoon for Carrick’s side.

45'
Amad booked (1-0)

Amad catches Simons late with a nasty one and is shown a yellow card.

Spurs wanted more but it is just a booking.

41'
Great save from Vicario (1-0)

A great save from Vicario prevents the hosts from doubling their lead.

Casemiro is picked out at the back-post and heads on target but the Italian goalkeeper reacts brilliantly to flick it over the crossbar.

38'
GOAL 1-0

United have the advantage and they do not take long to make it count.

A well-worked corner routine sees Mbeumo picked out after he is left free just inside the area. The Cameroonian passes it into the bottom left corner and United have the lead.
