Amorim continued

“For me, the frustration is not to see the same team at home and away. You saw today, we didn’t play well in the second half, but we were focused.

“We fight for the second balls. Ben (Sesko) was there to touch the ball all the time. So these small things are going to help us to win games. And sometimes you have your moments. First half, we had a lot of moments. But then in the second half, if we cannot play well, they will not play well.

“And that is the way a big team plays during the season. So that is the big frustration.”

Amorim on his players

“I saw today,” answered Amorim when asked if he still feels the support of the dressing room. “And I know that they want to do the best. And I know that they don’t want to change the coach all the time.

“But like I said during this week, to be with the manager you have to say ‘I will kill myself to go in every transition’. That is the truth, we need to show with actions.”

Full time (2-0)

It was ultimately a very dull second half, but a professional one from Amorim’s side. United got their lead and held it, recording their first clean sheet of the season. A routine win for Amorim, who has enjoyed such victories on anything but a routine basis.

Sunderland showed their quality in moments but never did enough to deserve anything from the game. It was a somewhat disappointing performance from Le Bris’ side, who could have had more of a go in this game.

The Brazilian has now had three yellow cards in his last two matches at Old Trafford.

Sunderland break forward and Traore gets to the ball before Fernandes and Lammens.

He pokes the ball through the gap between them and then goes down as he himself gets sandwiched in the gap. A red card would surely be given if he was fouled but the referee books Traore for diving. A decision that looks harsh on the replay.

Half-time (2-0)

Sunderland started well but the visitors soon faded with Amorim’s United uncharacteristically asserting dominance at home.
