Moyes ready to unleash Kudus but urges patience

West Ham manager David Moyes was pleased to see new signing Mohammed Kudus get off the mark in the Europa League against TSB Backa Topola.

Kudus capped his first West Ham start with a brilliant headed goal to put the Hammers in front during their 3-1 win at the London Stadium.

Moyes confirmed the Ghanaian is ready to make his first Premier League start for West Ham after he came off the bench last week against Manchester City.

A trip to Anfield to face Liverpool awaits West Ham, who have suffered one defeat in five Premier League games.

Moyes explained: “Kudus was always fit. I think we are keen to try and find the right ways. The team has not needed altering too much. We have started the season pretty well.

“I think getting him involved, it might take a little bit longer than Edson (Alvarez). he was suspended but has started the season really well, as has James (Ward-Prowse).”

West Ham’s impressive start to the season is a polar opposite to last season’s opening results. Moyes’ side lost their first three fixtures and were six points worse off after five games in 2022/23.

After a difficult start in the Premier League for Moyes, they found themselves embroiled in a relegation battle.

Ultimately, they survived comfortably alongside winning the Conference League, a magnificent achievement for Moyes and West Ham.

“Last year was a bit of the opposite, when new players did not start the season so well,” said Moyes.

“It took longer for them to come to the fore and it was probably, certainly after the World Cup and the second half of the season, before it started to come together.

“I have got to be mindful that it could take a little bit of time, but he is ready to play.”
