Eddie Howe says Newcastle will hold talks with Kieran Trippier about his future before the end of the season, with the Englishman’s contract at Newcastle set to expire this summer.

The Newcastle boss revealed that there have been no developments on his contract but Newcastle will hold talks with Trippier between now and the end of the campaign.

Howe said he would “never rule anything out” with Trippier as he’s been a “transformative signing” since joining from Atletico Madrid in 2022.

“He’s been an unbelievable player for this football club… he’s so important because when he plays well the team benefits,” he added.

Trippier has made just 14 Premier League appearances this season, with a further nine in cup competitions, but his game time has improved in recent weeks due to Newcastle’s ongoing injury crisis.

Howe praised the 35-year-old for how he has dealt with the demanding run of fixtures. He said: “It’s a really difficult period for him… Kieran’s not 20-years-old anymore so he’s having to deal with lots of games at a time when it’s never been harder for him.

“Kieran is an unbelievable leader and professional, his hunger for success is undiminished.”

  1. A tremendous signing. We owe him a lot. He’s lost a bit of pace but still gives everything he’s got every time he plays.
