And it’s derby-day delight for Sunderland! They do the double over Newcastle once more and overtake their bitter rivals in the Premier League table. Gordon opened the scoring for the hosts in the first half, but the second period was all Sunderland as Talbi and Brobbey scored to keep the bragging rights in Sunderland until next season. It’s a heartbreaking week for Eddie Howe and his side, but it’s derby-day delight for the second time this season for Regis Le Bris. Stay tuned for both managers’ reactions here.
Time is running out for Newcastle to snatch a draw at St. James’.
We will have seven added minutes to end the game here, albeit having already played four extra. It’s now or never for Newcastle.
OFF: Brobbey, Talbi
ON: Mayenda, Mandava
BRIAN BROBBEY has just written his name into Sunderland folklore! He’s been a threat all game, and Sunderland have looked like the only team who would score in these final ten minutes. Le Fée does brilliantly to make his way into the penalty area via the touchline, and he squares it to Brobbey. Brobbey’s first effort is saved by Ramsdale, but the rebound falls back to the Dutchman, who pokes it home to make it 2-1!
OFF: Gordon
ON: Wissa
Sunderland have a chance to snatch all three points here.
OFF: Diarra
ON: Le Fée
It’s set up to be a very nervy finish for Newcastle and their fans. It’s all Sunderland right now, and the home side can’t seem to get out of their own half.
Alderete is booked for halting the Newcastle counter-attack. The Magpies are on the back foot here though.
OFF: Barnes
ON: Osula
Osula replaces Harvey Barnes amid all the chaos.
Thiaw’s header has been disallowed as the offside Murphy was impeding Ellborg’s line of sight. That’s a real blow for Newcastle and Eddie Howe.
And Thiaw scores for Newcastle! The German meets Hall’s corner delivery from close range to head home and restore Newcastle’s advantage amid a flurry of players.
It’s another corner for the visitors. The Newcastle players are looking rather nervy at the moment.
Murphy’s first involvement wins a corner for his side, as his swerving shot is parried away by Ellborg.
OFF: Trippier, Woltemade, Elanga
ON: Livramento, Willock, Murphy
It’s all Sunderland now. Xhaka’s swerving shot takes a deflection off of Ramsey for another Sunderland corner. Xhaka to deliver.
And it’s an equaliser for Sunderland! All of Newcastle’s hard work undone in a second as Talbi pokes it home from close range. Ramsdale parries the corner kick back into the dagner zone and Hume strikes it goalwards. It’s blocked, and the rebound is blocked again, before the ball falls to Talbi in the six-yard box to poke it home. Parity is restored here, and it’s all to play for in the derby!
That’s another good chance for Sunderland. Rigg beats his man and manages to strike one goalwards, but Ramsdale parries it away for a corner.
OFF: Botman
ON: Thiaw
The injured Botman makes way for Thiaw.
This will be a worry for Newcastle. Sven Botman has been down on the grass receiving treatment for the last few minutes. It is unclear if he will be able to continue.
Sunderland have started this second half on the front foot, and are taking the fight to Newcastle. Newcastle need to calm the game down here, or all their hard work from the first half could be quickly undone.
