Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner says he feels “abandoned completely” by the club.
Glasner, who confirmed he would be leaving Palace at the end of the season when his contract runs out, hit out at the decision to agree to sell Marc Guehi to Manchester City the day before their game against Sunderland.
Guehi was not involved as Palace were beaten 2-1 at the Stadium of Light, meaning the Eagles are now without a win in their last ten games in all competitions.
“You’ve seen we made no substitutions. Look at the bench, it’s just kids,” Glasner told Sky Sports after the defeat.
“I said before that we feel that we are being abandoned completely.
“Selling our captain one day before a game. Completely no understanding for this.
“We are preparing and then yesterday at 10.30am I get told that our captain will be sold. So why not next week? Then he can at least play this game and next week other players are coming back.
“That makes me really upset today.
“I feel if your heart gets torn out twice a year, it was Eze one day before a game in the summer and your captain one day before a game.
“I just have no understanding. I’ve been in football for 30 years. I’ve never experienced this, not once. It’s happened twice within six or seven months.
“It’s where we are now. We’ve been playing for weeks now with 12 senior players in our squad.
“I heard yesterday at 10.30am for the first time we are selling Marc.
“Then we have to deal with it. One day before a game, coming here to Sunderland. We know we are not in the best run, we know all the circumstances.
“We have no players and we are selling our captain. Completely no understanding. I don’t know. No team would do this. I’ve seen other teams, players play and the next day they are leaving. We are selling the day before.”
Asked if he expects to see out the season with Palace, Glasner responded: “I don’t know.
“I have huge appreciation for this group of players. I completely trust them. Their character is exceptional and so we will stick together and get this turned around.
“I will never step back because these players deserve Oliver Glasner as their manager and their leader and this is what I will do.
“But again, sometimes it would help if we had a little bit of support.”
