Mauricio Pochettino says he would like to sign a new central defender amid reports linking Chelsea with a move for Monaco defender Axel Disasi.
The Blues have agreed a deal in principle for Disasi believed to be worth around £38m following the potentially season ending injury to Wesley Fofana.
And Pochettino, while coy on the links to Disasi, says he would like to bring in another defender as well as an “experienced midfielder”.
The Chelsea boss also confirmed the club’s plan is to loan out 19-year-old midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu, who is set to join the club from Stade Rennais.
“It’s obvious that maybe we need to reinforce this area (defence),” he said.
“We need experience in midfield. My information is a player that is from France that they will sign with the idea for some loan time.
“I don’t know (how many new signings I need) because if I say some numbers, after I can create a problem.
“For me, it’s important, the club is working really hard to try and improve all of the areas.”
New additions Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson have impressed in pre-season, with the former netting in Chelsea’s 2-0 pre-season win over Fulham.
But Pochettino also says he is also open to adding another striker to the squad, with Armando Broja still currently sidelined due to injury.
“Today we were happy with the performance and they can compliment very well,” he said.
“If the club can add some different profiles to help us we are open but I am so happy with both.
“We need to analyse now in the next weeks until the end of the transfer window to take a decision for the team.”
