Postecoglou: We allowed Wolves to get comfortable

Ange Postecoglou said he’s “not a magician” when asked about how he can improve performances after his Tottenham side dropped to fifth in the Premier League after a 2-1 defeat at home to Wolves.

Spurs struggled to find creativity in the frontline and could not contain Wolves’ constant threat on the counter-attack as Joao Gomes’ brace either side of a brilliant Dejan Kulusevski equaliser meant Gary O’Neill’s side took all three points.

It is now two home defeats in four games for Tottenham, as their grasp on top four has slipped away in recent weeks and they are now two points behind Aston Villa after they won 2-1 against Fulham at Craven Cottage.

Postecoglou stressed that there is still a long way to go this season and that his Spurs side need to come back stronger. They will have a two-week break until their next game which is at home to Crystal Palace.

“We’re disappointed with the outcome. Performance is probably a similar feeling. The first half, we controlled the game without being threatening and allowed Wolves to get comfortable.

“Second half, we got the goal early and we had them under pressure for the majority and had them pinned back. We had some chances but when you concede a second, you make the game difficult.

“We’ve had injuries all year and we’ve performed better than we did today. It’s still on us to put in the level of performance irrespective of who is missing.

“We can’t win games of football unless we’re absolutely at our best and in the first 45, we weren’t.

“We’re disappointed but there’s still a good chunk of the season to go. We’ve got two weeks until the next game and we’ve got to make sure we’re ready.”
