It has been another disappointing season of top-flight football so far for Norwich City, as they sit at the foot of the table once again.
Season so far
With just two wins all season, and the most defeats in the division, the Canaries will be hoping for an improvement in the second half of the season in 2022. Injuries to key players and poor recruiting have not helped Norwich’s cause, but it has been another poor campaign in the top-flight for the Canaries. With the leakiest defence and least potent attack in the division, it will be a struggle for the side from East Anglia to stay up.
The Managers
Daniel Farke was sacked on November 6th, despite Norwich securing their first win of the season the same day. Former Aston Villa boss Dean Smith replaced the German at the helm, and his tenure has not seen much improvement, with Norwich remaining at the bottom of the table at the time of writing.
Player of the season so far
After the departure of star attacker Emiliano Buendia to Aston Villa in the summer, all attacking impotence was placed on Teemu Pukki. The Finnish international has scored 63 per cent of Norwich’s Premier League goals this season. Out of the eight goals Norwich have scored, Pukki has five of them.
Best Transfer
It seemed as if Norwich had gone about their transfer business in a sensible manner, utilising the £35 million they received for Buendia.
Sadly for the club, these signings have been unable to improve the outlook for the squad. Loan players Brandon Williams and Billy Gilmour have disappointed, after much hype from Manchester United and Chelsea fans.
Players like Christos Tzolis and Milot Rashica arrived for record transfer fees, however neither have had the expected impact upon their arrival. The most impressive player to have come in has been Norwegian midfielder Mathias Normann, who arrived on loan from Russian club Rostov.
Normann has added much needed quality to a sluggish Norwich midfield, but the Canaries are certainly missing his presence, with the Norwegian currently side-lined with a pelvis injury.
Most disappointing player
Billy Gilmour arrived at Norwich with the aim of returning to parent club Chelsea a better player. After impressing for Scotland at the Euros and in brief cameos for the Blues, it appeared that Norwich had struck gold.
Sadly for the 20-year-old, this season has so far been a disaster, with Canaries fans calling for the Scot’s loan to be cancelled early. There is still time for Gilmour to turn things around, but maybe it is for the best that he starts fresh at another club.
