Arsenal have agreed a new four-year contract with defender William Saliba, the Athletic’s David Ornstein reports.

Saliba’s deal was due to run out in a year’s time but his new contract will keep him at the club until at least 2027.

The Frenchman played a key role in Arsenal’s surprise title challenge last season, playing 27 times in the Premier League before a back injury suffered against Sporting CP in the Europa League forced him to miss the end of the season.

Ornstein reports that the paperwork is now being prepared for Saliba to sign the deal, fending off interest from clubs in both the Premier League and abroad.

His absence from the team proved costly for the Gunners, coinciding with a late dip in form which allowed Manchester City to overtake them and win a third Premier League trophy on the bounce.

He is due to become the latest of Arsenal’s young stars to sign a new deal, with Bukayo Saka, Aaron Ramsdale and Gabriel Martinelli also having committed their long-term futures to the club.

Saliba signed for Arsenal in 2019 but has spent much of his time at the club back in France on loan, before establishing himself as a key player under Mikel Arteta this season.
