Son: Spurs can turn season around by beating AC Milan

Spurs forward Heung-Min Son says tomorrow’s Champions League round of 16 second leg against AC Milan is a chance for his side to turn their season around.

Tottenham were knocked out of the FA Cup earlier this month by a 1-0 defeat to Championship side Sheffield United, before suffering a blow to their top-four hopes by losing 1-0 to Wolves in the Premier League.

Spurs will be boosted by the return of manager Antonio Conte for tomorrow’s clash as they look to overturn a one-goal deficit, having been without him for the past three weeks while he has been in Italy recovering from a recent gallbladder operation.

Son knows the importance of tomorrow’s game, with the Champions League representing their last realistic chance of silverware this season.

“Every game is important but tomorrow could be the most important game of the season,” he said.

“Everyone dreams of playing in the Champions League and words are not enough. I think we have to have a clear plan for tomorrow because we had a game a couple of weeks ago.

“I think this game, if we turn it round, it can be a changing of the season and give us a little bit more confidence and a boost.”

Spurs assistant manager Cristian Stellini acknowledged that losing out to a club in the division below in the FA Cup presented a big missed opportunity to try and win a trophy, and Son is hoping to use the pain of that experience to help his side progress in the Champions League.

“We were all disappointed and we don’t want the fans to be disappointed,” he added.

“It was painful last week to go out of the FA Cup. But we are still in the Champions League and we are fighting for top four.”
