Live updates from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as Spurs host Liverpool.
“The second yellow, I see two big boys competing and Konate absolutely smashing through Cuti. It’s a foul, I’m not saying anything more.
“His foot lands on Cuti’s head, not a yellow, I’m not saying that, but Cuti makes a reaction. I guess it can be given but I guess it can be not given.
“I think any player needs to control their emotions and be cool headed. It’s not always because you are the captain that you need to be exceptionally cool headed.
“We’re talking about a very passionate player that’s been very good for this club.”
“I think the second goal is a mistake from the ref. I think there’s two hands in the back clearly. I don’t understand that how you can do that.
“Everywhere else we’ve seen that 1000 times on the pitch, someone goes up for a header, a goal-kick into the centre-back, two hands in the back and it’s a foul.
“I think that was the biggest mistake in my opinion. And from VAR.”
“The first red I’ve seen been given before but I also said before, definitely a few times at Brentford but also others, I don’t like that this is a red card. I think the game is, it’s probably too big to say gone, but, for me, it’s not reckless, it’s not exceptional force. He’s chasing van Dijk, he’s trying to put pressure, change direction. Unfortunately his foot is on his achilles.
“You can say he needs to be smarter, don’t do it and all that, so we’re not allowed to have physical contact anymore? So that’s the thing on that. The next thing is if he gets three games, which I don’t understand. How can he get three games on something which is not reckless? That’s absolutely wrong and we probably can’t appeal.”
“I think, overall, it was a good performance tonight. I’m proud of the players and how they responded (to the red cards). I think the first 30 minutes was also good from us.
“We responded to setbacks throughout the game which is something we’ve been working very hard on because that’s the biggest thing that the best teams need to do. Responding to setbacks in a game. The best teams deal with that, move on and keep going. Stick to the plan, structure and everything and I think we did that excellently. I think there was great personality and character in the team.”
“To be honest, I thought, against nine, we would probably be able to keep them away from our goal but it looked as if we were down to nine and they had 11 because it was attack after attack after attack.”
“We’re definitely not perfect yet but, but we knew this when we made so many changes in the summer that it would take time.
“Maybe because we won the first five or six games everybody thought this would go so easily but as a club, ownership, we knew that change could mean different (up and down) results. I think that has shown to be true.”
“With Alex (Isak) and with Conor (Bradley), we have to wait. You could see our bench today but this is not for the first time as well in the last few weeks and we’re picking up points which is the main thing.
“We’re not the only team which suffers injuries in this period in England, because we play so many games so it’s quite normal.”
Arne Slot on Isak’s injury: “I don’t have any news on him but if a player scores and then gets injured, doesn’t come back on the pitch and doesn’t try to come back on the pitch, like Conor Bradley for example did but I had to take him off as well because he couldn’t go on, then it’s usually not a good thing.
“But I cannot say anything more than that.
“I haven’t spoken to him about it yet.
“It’s a good thing that he scored! A good goal. Assisted by Florian Wirtz. I said last week that the players are getting better, the team is getting better.
“Again, it wasn’t perfect today, especially not in the last ten minutes, but in the meantime we pick up points and I’m seeing the team developing in the way I would like.”
Liverpool striker Hugo Ekitike speaking to Sky Sports after scoring his side’s second: “The best feeling as a striker. You need goals. The most important is the win and to play with confidence, and obviously if I can help with goals. The first goal I helped with the pass before the assist, so I try to help the team the best as I can and that’s the most important.”
Spurs’ late fight back is not enough to draw level against Liverpool.
Andy Robertson is on for Hugo Ekitike and Trey Nyoni is on for Florian Wirtz.
Pedro Porro latches onto a loose ball and fires at goal but his shot is saved.
Cristian Romero is sent off.
He appears to have kicked out on Konate after the Frenchman knocked him over.
Spurs have a free kick just outside the area.
Nine minutes added on.
Federico Chiesa replaces Jeremie Frimpong.
Richarlison races through on goal but is chased down vy Van Dijk.
Richarlison gets Spurs back in it.
The ball ricochets in the area and falls to Richalison who tucks the chance away.
Richarlison is on for Randal Kolo Muani.
Ibrahima Konate is in the book for pulling back Randal Kolo Muani.
Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray make way for Wilson Odobert and Joao Palhinha.
Liverpool double their lead through Hugo Ekitike.
Ekitike jumps highest in the area and scores for Liverpool following a Jeremi Frimpong cross. Romero is booked for protesting the goal, he feels as though he was fouled in the build up.
So close from Spurs.
Randal Kolo Muani drives past Milos Kerkez before firing a strike which comes off the Hungarian and onto the Liverpool crossbar.
Jeremie Frimpong is on for Alexander Isak. The goal was his last touch of the match.
The stretcher is brought back off as the Swede is back up and helped off the field here.
